| Take the 210 Freeway East toward Pasadena, to the 10 East, exit at Euclid, turn right. Proceed about three miles, turn left on Holt Blvd, then right on Plum Street. To avoid the gridlock near the Pomona Fairplex, take 210 East all the way to Mountain Avenue, go south all the way to Holt, turn left, then right on Plum. |

| Ontario Center Ice, is home of the California Stars. It is a fairly new facility located in the heart of old downtown Ontario. Be sure you go to the correct Ontario ice rink. The Eagles play in the shoebox-sized older facility down the street. Center Ice has only one sheet but it's a very nice place to watch a game, with excellent site lines (unfortunately they strung that irritating netting all around the ice surface - bad for viewing, bad for photographers; how many times has a player taken a slap shot toward the crowd standing between the blue lines? Do I hear "zero"?). Locker rooms are clean and spacious. There used to be a full service pro shop in the corner but they pulled up stakes. Come with skates already sharpened and extra equipment. An enclosed snack bar with tables and chairs in a warm room doubles as the rink arcade. An informal survey of players revealed that Center Ice may have one of the best ice surfaces in SoCal. CMM.com's favorite feature of this rink is the fake owl perched on a light fixture above the front door. It's there to keep the local avian population from crapping all over the hockey moms and dads. Based on the volume of uric acid (that's "bird poop" in scientific talk) on that lamp, Semenov better invest in a pellet gun and start taking the law into his own hands. |
