| KHS Ice Arena was for many years known as Glacial Garden Anaheim. But in the Spring of 2006 new ownership in the form of Coach Konstantin Lodnia and his Asian investors took over. The resident South Coast Sabers transformed themselves into the Anaheim Wildcats to fit into the structure of Konstantin’s relationship with the Wichita Falls Wildcats of the NAHL. The rink is located in an industrial park and its immediate parking lot is very small. However, you can park all along the side of the building and enter through the back door. KHS houses two sheets, and hopefully all your games will be on the "A" rink, which has raised seating right above the two benches. You get a good view of both the game and of the coaching staff running the team. Actually, regarding the good view of the game, there are a few unfortunately placed iron pillars and that really thick white netting that tends to obstruct easy spectating. But this is luxury compared to the viewing on the "B" rink, a smaller sheet of ice. All viewing takes place on one end of the ice and you have a choice of standing on the balcony where you can't see the scoreboard, or standing at ice level where it is hard to see the opposite end of the rink. Standing up high seems to be the best option - call down to a buddy for a clock update. In the front corner opposite the grandstand, you can view the game unobstructed at ice level in semi-privacy. You just need to find the correct red door to enter this small space. KHS has a full-service snack bar which as rumor has it, is run by the people that used to have the very popular Glacial Lakewood operation. A few vending machines and video arcade games are also located in the snack bar area. The pro shop located in the back corner was closed and that space now seems to be used for referees or meetings or as a spare dressing room. After a lot of fanfare at inception, the KHS Ice Arena Red Army appears to be in decline. The General probably longs for the days when life was simple, when he ran SoCal hockey from his spacious dacha under the Glacial Lakewood grandstand. |
